Non-affirmative Cyber

Non-affirmative Cyber

‘Non-affirmative Cyber’ refers to a coverage situation where a traditional insurance policy does not clearly include or exclude cyber-related losses. It is also called silent cyber.

Non-affirmative cyber has implications for both the insurer and the insured parties:

  1. The insured and insurer may disagree about whether or not the policy covers a claim.
  2. The insurer could face claims for a risk it never priced into the premium.
  3. The insured could discover that the protection they expected is uncertain or unavailable.

For insurance professionals, the challenge is to identify where policies leave cyber coverage unclear and help clients address potential gaps before a loss occurs.
